Upon motion of the SBI, the court granted permission to place Yanukovych into custody for suspicion of high treason
The Pechersky District Court of Kyiv granted permission to place the former president Viktor Yanukovych into custody (in absentia).
Investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation revealed that in 2010, the fugitive president signed the Agreement between Ukraine and russia on the stay of the rusian black sea fleet on the territory of Ukraine, understanding that he acted to the detriment of the sovereignty of the country.
It has been established that the terms and conditions of this agreement were imposed in Moscow by russian president dmitry medvedev.
Viktor Yanukovych set up conditions for the russian black sea fleet to remain on the territory of Ukraine for 25 years, which contributed to the increase (instead of withdrawal) of military equipment and personnel of the armed forces of the aggressor state in Ukraine, which were used during the occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol in 2014.
Contrary to Part 3 of Article 4 of the Law of Ukraine "On International Treaties of Ukraine", the draft of the agreement was not even legally examined before being signed.
Investigators of the SBI received the original documents revealing intentional actions of the highest officials of Ukraine to the detriment of our state's sovereignty and territorial integrity at the behest of the highest authorities of the russian federation.
These actions were carried out upon prior conspiracy by the former Ukrainian prime minister Mykola Azarov and the then-president of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych. Both were put on the wanted list within the framework of this criminal proceeding.
Granting permission to place Victor Yanukovych into custody (in absentia) will provide grounds to conduct a special pre-trial investigation.
Procedural guidance is provided by the Prosecutor General’s Office.
It should be reminded that on May 19, 2022, upon motion of the SBI, the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv granted permission to place the former president Viktor Yanukovych into custody (in absentia) on suspicion of organizing the illegal movement of persons across the state border of Ukraine (Part 2 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
