The year of resilience: the SBI investigates more than 1.3 thousand cases of crimes against national security, russian property worth billions of hryvnias transferred to the state (INFOGRAPHICS)
Russia's full-scale aggression has also affected the work of the State Bureau of Investigation. The SBI, like other law enforcement agencies, adjusted its activities in the context of hostilities in accordance with existing national security and defence priorities.
Since the beginning of the war, the SBI, in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies, has been investigating crimes against the foundations of national security, identifying and detaining traitors and collaborators, documenting war crimes committed by the russian federation, and conducting stabilisation activities in the liberated territories. Our employees are searching for the property of the aggressor country, discovering arsenals of russian ammunition and military equipment.
In total, during the year of Ukraine's full-scale confrontation with russia's armed aggression, the SBI investigated 1,308 criminal cases of crimes against the foundations of national security.
Among them: 1,043 criminal cases for high treason (Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), 208 criminal cases for collaboration (Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), 17 criminal cases for aiding and abetting the aggressor state (Article 111-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), etc.
As a result of the investigations, 571 people were served with suspicion notices, 321 people were put on the wanted list, and 1,372 people are under investigation for involvement in treason and collaboration.
A total of 236 indictments have been submitted to the courts under these articles.
Most of the cases have been opened in the Luhansk, Zaporizhia, Donetsk, Kharkiv and Kherson regions.
Since the beginning of the war, an important area of the SBI's work has been the identification and confiscation of property belonging to russian companies or russian entities. In the context of russian aggression, such business activities in Ukraine pose a threat to the national security of the state.
As a result of the investigations, property of several billion hryvnias worth of russian companies has been transferred to the state. These include Tatneft's corporate rights and authorised capital, former property of oligarch Oleg Deripaska, Glukhiv Quartzite Quarry LLC, Aerok LLC, Kalush Pipe Plant and many other russian assets in Ukraine.
As a result of the criminal investigation, 43 units of special and other vehicles, more than 400 tonnes of petroleum products, 200,000 rounds of small arms and other ammunition, 17,000 pieces of personal protective equipment were handed over to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and funds, seized assets and bail paid by the defence in criminal cases were transferred: more than USD 1 million, about UAH 3 million and EUR 650,000.
Since the first days of the war, members of the Department of Personal Security have been directly involved in combat operations as part of joint special units of the Ukrainian Defence Intelligence Service. During the defence of Kyiv, they took an active part in the reconnaissance of the area, the holding of established positions and the clearing (liberation) of settlements in the Kyiv region.
For special merits in the protection of state sovereignty, territorial integrity, strengthening of defence and security of Ukraine, 5 of our employees were awarded the Order "For Courage" of various degrees, and 10 - the Order of Merit. Liubomyr Savchuk, an investigator with the State Bureau of Investigation in Lviv, was posthumously awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky. Another employee received the highest award - the Golden Star of the Hero of Ukraine.
Today, taking into account what has been done, it can be said that the State Bureau of Investigation has fulfilled its tasks and not only maintained the positive dynamics of criminal proceedings, but also managed to achieve significant successes in new areas dictated by wartime conditions.
The fight continues.
We defend the state together!
