Combating organized crime: 80 members of organized crime groups were put on trial.

The SBI does not neglect the fight against organized crime. Effective counteraction to organized crime is possible only with professional and systematic work of law enforcement agencies, their effective interaction and coordination.

Despite the fact that the State Bureau of Investigation is a relatively young law enforcement agency of Ukraine, in a short period of time, the Bureau's employees have already proven their effectiveness in combating organized crime.

Thus, in 2022 alone, the SBI investigated 82 criminal proceedings on organized crime. As a result of this work, 80 people were charged with committing criminal offenses as part of criminal groups and have already been brought to trial.

In the completed pre-trial investigations, losses amounting to more than UAH 137 million were established. Thanks to the work of the SBI, damages in these criminal proceedings amounted to more than UAH 55 million.

Investigative statistics show that criminal groups emerge when organizing corruption schemes and fraud, encroaching on Ukraine's natural resources (deforestation, illegal mining, etc.).

Last year, the SBI exposed 4 criminal groups with corruption ties, consisting of 23 people. The SBI continues to work on 10 more criminal proceedings against organized criminal groups.

One of the most dangerous activities of criminal groups is the production and distribution of drugs and psychotropics. This year alone, the SBI has already exposed 4 powerful drug networks that distributed drugs throughout the country.

These are examples of the most high-profile criminal proceedings:

• The SBI blocked a large-scale drug production center in Zaporizhzhia, seizing about a ton of opium poppy straws
• The SBI exposed in Dnipro an international drug syndicate that produced drugs on an industrial scale
• Rivne region: members of organized criminal group, who carried out illegal logging, will be brought to court
• The SBI and the National Police exposed fraudsters who seized money of agricultural producers worth tens of millions of hryvnias
