The SBI detains Ukrtransbezpeka official in Dnipro region who regularly demanded bribes from transport operators

The State Bureau of Investigation responds consistently and thoroughly to any attempts by officials to enrich themselves by using their official position.

SBI employees served a notice of suspicion to the official of the State Transport Safety Service of Ukraine in Dnipro region, who regularly collected tribute from local transport operators for unhindered operations.

The inspector was paid monthly for each vehicle that travelled the route. In exchange for the money, he promised not to cause any unnecessary obstacles for passenger and cargo transporters nor to write any reports on administrative violations.

In total, the official received almost UAH 100,000 in illicit benefits. The inspector was arrested while receiving another bribe of UAH 40,000.

The Ukrtranssafety official was charged with suspicion of receiving an unlawful advantage by a public official (Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for up to 10 years with confiscation of property.

The detainee has been sentenced to pre-trial detention with the possibility of bail. He is currently being held in a remand prison.

Other persons involved in the crime are being identified.

The operation was conducted in cooperation with Ukrtransbezpeka and under the supervision of the Dnipro Regional Prosecutor's Office.
