The SBI systematically exposes customs officials who "assist" importers in earning millions of hryvnias

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation served a notice of suspicion to an Odesa customs inspector. Due to his actions, the state budget lost millions of hryvnias because of his illegal schemes of customs clearance.

Before russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, tons of goods - clothing from China - were imported to one of the Odesa customs posts.

According to the scheme, the goods arrived at customs with particular information in the declaration, and the inspector changed the nomenclature of the goods during customs clearance to reduce their value. Thanks to the inspector's "help," the entrepreneurs saved more than 500,000 hryvnias on customs clearance for just one container.

The state has suffered more than UAH 2.3 million in damage.

Other possible facts of abuse by customs officers are being checked.

Currently, the customs officer has been served a notice of suspicion of abuse of office, which caused grave consequences to the public interest (Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The article provides for up to 8 years of imprisonment.
