The State Bureau of Investigation has issued a notice of suspicion against two heads of a customs post of the State Customs Service of Ukraine. They abused their official position during the customs clearance of 26 ambulances.
According to the Security Service of Ukraine, in 2021 the deputy head of the customs post and the head of the customs clearance department assisted a private company in illegally prolonging the customs clearance of 26 ambulances.
During the investigation, the SBI found that the officials "helped" the entrepreneurs eight times, ignoring the warnings of the Inspector-2006 automated customs clearance system. They did not take measures to collect customs duties and did not apply penalties to the state budget. This "service" caused damage to the state budget in excess of UAH 20 million.
The two heads of the customs post were charged with abuse of office with serious consequences (Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
This article provides for a penalty of up to six years' imprisonment and disqualification from holding certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years.
The General Prosecutor's Office provides procedural guidance. We would also like to mention the damage caused to the state budget by this "service", which amounted to more than 20 million UAH.
